ROMHacking.net will become a read-only site on August 1st, 2024, preserving all content, except account details, on archive.org. Moving forward, only news updates will be accepted, and while downloads and images will continue to be available if maintained by certain users, the forums’ future is uncertain.
The site’s owner, Nightcrawler, cited rising traffic, legal challenges, and harassment as reasons for the management difficulties that led to the closure, as no suitable successors were found. This decision is seen as a significant loss for the gaming community, particularly in terms of preserving and accessing retro games, with the site’s social media accounts also disassociated from RHDN.
