Rubber-Keyed Wonder: Expansion Pack Smashes Kickstarter Target

Rubber-Keyed Wonder: Expansion Pack

You may recall that The Rubber-Keyed Wonder is Gracious Films’ acclaimed documentary about the ever-popular 8-bit ZX Spectrum home computer, that was released last year, and while the documentary covered a lot of ground, the film’s makers have plenty more Speccy goodness that they didn’t manage to squeeze in, which they hope to rectify by producing a companion piece that’ s set be called ‘Rubber-Keyed Wonder: ZX Spectrum Expansion Pack.’

However, this new companion piece is planned to consist of more than just offcuts from the original film, and is set to feature specially made films as well as unseen material from both Gracious Films’ extensive archive and the original movie.

To be included in Rubber-Keyed Wonder: ZX Spectrum Expansion Pack is “further insight into Sir Clive Sinclair and his companies, the design of the ZX Spectrum, its peripherals and many of the games that featured on the Sinclair computers.”

The project was originally intended as a three-hour long digital-only release, but it soon expanded into a six-hour project, and as a result, the film’s makers have launched a Kickstarter to raise funds to produce Rubber-Keyed Wonder: ZX Spectrum Expansion Pack as both a digital 4K release, and as a physical release to be split across two Blu-Ray discs.

So, if you enjoyed The Rubber -Keyed Wonder, and you’d like to learn even more about the wonders of the ZX Spectrum, then you can back the Kickstarter for Rubber-Keyed Wonder: ZX Spectrum Expansion Pack now. At the time of writing, the Kickstarter campaign still has 10 days left to run, and it has already raised £19,032, smashing its goal of £6,000. It certainly seems that the humble ZX Spectrum’s popularity continues to endure, well over 40 years after the machine was first released. Indeed, just this week, we reported on new homebrew game coming to the format, and a live event dedicated to the computer!
