We first reported on Sektori, a retro-inspired twin-stick shooter from developer Kimmo Lahtinen, last year. Since then, the game has been widely praised by players and critics, currently holding a MetaCritic score of 93% for the PC port and 89% for the PlayStation version. Now, the game has been released on Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $14.99.
“I cut my teeth on fiercely challenging hyperkinetic arcade action games at Housemarque, which inspired me to take these skills and put my own spin on it,” said developer Kimmo Lahtinen. “Sektori is the result of that. We don’t see a lot of shmups or arcade games these days, so I expected Sektori to be a rather small pet project, but the response from players was so positive that it kept me motivated to ensure Sektori could be on all contemporary consoles, and the Switch 2 was the perfect home for a game based around short, flashy bursts of frenetic action.”
The game mixes high-adrenaline gameplay, kaleidoscopic visuals, and hard-hitting techno music coming together to transport players into another state of consciousness. In Sektori’s Campaign Mode, players’ll brave five endlessly evolving stages that reconstitute the layout of the battlefield, the waves of foes they’ll face, and even the bosses, who can radically change based on the stage that players encounter them in.
