Dotemu-developed Side-Scrolling Action Title Absolum Announced

Absolum is a new side-scrolling action title just announced by publisher Arc System Works. The game is being developed by Dotemu, famous for its work on the Streets of Rage series as well as other famous brands such as Turtles. Two other retro-focused developers, Supamonks and Guard Crush, are also involved. There is no specific release date, just that it will be coming in 2025. Absolum will be released on PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam

ArcSystem Works has described Absolum as “a fresh breath for action-fantasy, blending rogue-like and beat ’em up elements.” The statement went on to say. “From the team that revolutionized side-scrolling action comes Absolum, a mix of top-tier action and roguelike elements. Your adventure in the world of Talam allows you to enjoy the atmosphere of a classic fantasy game!

The game seems to use traditional 2D side-scrolling brawler mechanics and seems to have the instantly recognisable Dotemu graphic and color style. There are a few screens of combat and a few glimpses of some special moves. Those who can’t wait to play the full game are invited to sample the Steam demo that is available now alongside the teaser trailer. This has certainly piqued our interest, so we will be keeping you up to date with new developments.
