Pixel Art Puzzle Platformer Square Brothers Out Now

Square Brothers is a new pixel art puzzle platformer from retro publisher Ratalaika Games and developer 9Ratones. It’s out now on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam, priced at $4.99. The budget title continues Ratalaika Games‘ great catalogue of retro-inspired releases that aims to provide exposure for indie developers as well as great value retro gaming.

In Square Brothers, players will take control of two thieves as they try to steal all the treasure and make their way through 40 challenging puzzle stages. They’ll switch between the tall, lanky thief to reach elevated platforms, and his short, stocky accomplice to slip under narrow gaps. Only by using their unique shapes together can players collect every shiny treasure, snag the key, and escape to the exit.

To add to the retro feel of the pixel art, this one will also include some retro aspect ratios and CRT filter options. Keen-eyed retro gamers may notice the similarities with the excellent Bonanza Bros., a 1990 arcade title by Sega, which also featured two brothers who sought to steal all the gold. However, that game was more in line with a stealth title as opposed to taxing puzzles found in Square Brothers.
