As you’ll no doubt know already, and, indeed, as we reported previously, Star Fox 64 will be receiving a Nintendo Switch 2 remake next month. But if you don’t want to shell out the rather high asking price for Nintendo’s Star Fox 64 Switch 2 remake, but you’d still like to play the game on a handheld console, then another (very very unofficial) method of doing so is in the works from a coder by the name of Daniel Welch, who, in his spare time, is working on a PSP port of Star Fox 64. While the PSP port of Star Fox 64 is not yet finished, you can follow the port’s progress via its GitHub page.
Star Fox 64 has previously received an unofficial enhanced fan port to PC, as we reported back in 2024. And Star Fox 64 isn’t the only game to be receiving an unofficial fan port to the PSP in recent times, as we recently reported on an unofficial PSP fan port of the popular card game roguelite Balatro.
Star Fox 64 was originally released for (of course) the Nintendo 64 back in 1997. Reportedly to avoid a trademark conflict with the German company StarVox, the game was released under the title Lylat Wars in PAL regions (Europe and Australasia.)
