Thalamusic, a new music label from indie/homebrew publisher Thalamus Digital has launched on Bandcamp with four albums, which include soundtrack albums to three of its games: Cecconoid; Death Ray Manta; and Return to Blacktooth, which we’ve covered previously; as well as SID Life Crisis, which is a collection of 10 SID chiptunes reimagined by Mr. Weebl, featuring tracks from classic C64 games such as: Lightforce; Quedex; Firelord, Arkanoid; Crazy Comets; Delta+; Bombjack; Sanxion; International Karate+; and Parallax.
Each of the four albums is available to purchase digitally from the Thalamusic Bandcamp page, and each purchase includes unlimited streaming of the album and a high-quality download in MP3 and FLAC formats.
While today Thalamus is primarily a publisher of homebrew titles for retro formats, the publisher has a long history in the games industry, with Thalamus Ltd. starting life some 40 years ago, back in 1986, when it was founded as the software publishing arm of Newsfield Publications Ltd., which was then the publisher of the C64 magazine ZZAP! 64 and the ZX Spectrum magazine Crash, both or which have been revived by Retro Fusion Books in recent years. Thalamus Ltd. initially published Commodore 64 games, before expanding into other 8 and 16-bit formats. The company’s current incarnation, Thalamus Digital, launched in 2017, and as well as publishing new games for old formats, the publisher also releases games on modern formats, and now, with the launch of Thalamusic, it also releases albums of video game music too!
