The 1980 ‘Time Out’ Might Be The First Nintendo Commercial In America

Nearly a decade prior to the release of the Game Boy, a commercial titled ‘Time Out‘ aired in North America featuring a Game & Watch LCD game. Chris Kohler discovered this segment on a film reel and provided it to The Video Game History Foundation for preservation. The handheld device was licensed by Nintendo to Mego, resulting in Mego’s logo being displayed on the front of the casing, while Nintendo’s logo was embossed on the rear panel. The Video Game History Foundation believes that ‘Time Out‘ is likely the first American commercial to showcase a Nintendo product.

I'm Mubarak AlSabah, born in '87, and I'm a big fan of retro games. I’ve been gaming since '93, so it's been a lifelong passion for me. Collecting retro games is my favorite hobby, and I have a great collection that takes you back in time. In addition to gaming, I also have 830+ premium domain names, which is another hobby that I love just as much. I started collecting domains in '97, combining my interest in the digital world with my love for nostalgic gaming.
