The Classic PC-88 RPG Ys III: Wanderers From Ys Coming To Switch

The action RPG Ys III: Wanderers From Ys, part of the PC-88 lineup, is slated for a Nintendo Switch release on May 9, courtesy of D4 Enterprise‘s classic EGGCONSOLE series.

This 1989 title marks a shift from its predecessors, introducing side-scrolling gameplay and manual attacks instead of the original top-down view and bump combat system.

Set nearly three years post-Ys II, the narrative centers around protagonist Adol Christin, a returning hero from the first two installments. He heads to Redmont, the village of his companion Dogi, prompted by ominous news of impending danger. Adol springs into action to embark on a fresh journey, aiding the imperiled locals.

The game initially launched for the PC-88 and subsequently made its way onto the PC-98, MSX, X68000, Mega Drive/Genesis, PC Engine CD-ROM²/TurboGrafx-CD, SNES, and Famicom platforms. In 2005, a Windows remake titled Ys: The Oath in Felghana was released, which later expanded to PSP, Nintendo Switch, and PS4/PS5. Among these, only the SNES, Mega Drive, TurboGrafx-CD, and PSP editions were offered in English.
