The Road of Dust and Sorrow is a new pixel art horror survival title from developer Painted Black Games and publisher Silver Lining Interactive. A new trailer drop at the Future Games Show this weekend gives us a glimpse of the gameplay in this anticipated title that the developer has described as being influenced by Resident Evil and The Last of Us. The Road of Dust and Sorrow is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 1, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside the Steam release in 2026.
A demo is available to experience right now on Steam that has already received an overwhelmingly positive reception, with players highly praising its haunting atmosphere and gripping story, leaving them eagerly counting down the days for more. According to the developer, The Road of Dust and Sorrow is a “tense, story-driven pixel art horror inspired by ’90s classics, where players must survive a world gone wrong and protect what matters most”. It certainly looks like an intense game that covers all the classic horror tropes, and the interesting, grim-looking art style really does capture that apocalyptic setting.
