Thin Ice is a new homebrew game for the 8-bit Commodore 64 home computer. “Nothing notable about that,” you may be thinking, but what makes Thin Ice a little different from most other recent homebrew games for the C64 is the pedigree of its creators. This is because the developers of Thin Ice have worked on titles released during the machine’s 1980s heyday, such as: Bounder, Re-Bounder, Bulldog, Future Knight, and Skate Crazy. The team who has created Thin Ice includes programmer Chris Shrigley, graphic artist Terry Lloyd, and musician Simon Phipps, all of whom were working on 8-bit home computer games back in the 1980s.
Publisher Thalamus Digital describes Thin Ice as follows: “Thin Ice is deliciously simple: the aim of each level is wipe out the nasties and head for the EXIT portal before the timer reaches zero. Binky can move freely around each level while dispatching the nasties, either by squashing them with ice cubes, or freezing them with his icy breath and smashing them to smithereens.”
Thalamus Digital published Thin Ice yesterday (July 22, 2026), as digital download for Commodore 64, via itch.io. A physical release of the game is also panned for the future.
Thalamus Digital is a prolific publisher of retro games or both modern and retro formats. Other games it has published on which we have reported on recently include the forthcoming Steam version of Roguecraft DX and the belated Head Over Heels sequel Return to Blacktooth.
