Tiger-Heli, Atari’s 1985 coin-op vertically scrolling shooter, may have received a home conversion to the NES in 1986, but the game was never ported to any of Atari’s own consoles, until now, that is, as Tiger Heli will be flying onto both the Atari 2600 and the Atari 7800 on 18th July, 2025, and the releases will be compatible with both the with the original Atari 7800 and 2600, as well as the modern Atari 2600+ and 7800+ consoles.
In order to whet the appetites of Atari collectors who are eager to finally play Tiger-Heli on their Atari hardware, Atari released packshots for Tiger-Heli today, along with packshots for Avalanche (2600), Dark Chambers (7800), Countermeasure II (7800), and Super Circus Atari (2600 & 7800), which will all also be released on the same day, All of these Atari titles will be published by Plaion.
Avalanche is an arcade game released by Atari in 1978, in which the player must catch falling rocks. Up until now, the game has only ever been ported to Atari’s 8-bit home computers, so this release will be its Atari console debut.
Countermeasure II is a new top-down shooter and is a sequel to the Atari 5200 title Countermeasure, which was released in 1982.
Super Circus Atari is another new game, in which players control the see-saw, launching daredevil clowns on a mission to pop as many balloons as possible.
Dark Chambers is a dungeon crawler, adapted from the home computer title Dandy, and originally released on Atari consoles in 1986.
