Game Boy Color Title Toni Island Adventure Heads to Steam Next Month

Toni Island Adventure is a Game Boy Color homebrew title described as “a short and charming retro-style adventure for players with busy lives.”
The game  draws its inspiration from retro titles such as Zelda: Link’s Awakening. In Toni Island Adventure , players take on the role of Toni, a pizza-loving sailor dog who wakes up shipwrecked on a strange island. To find his way home, Toni will need to help the local dogs, explore mysterious dungeons, and beat the fearsome spiritual guardians to reunite all five relics and stop the Pepe Caldera volcano threat looming over the island.

Toni Island Adventure was designed with short, focused play sessions in mind. It’s a wholesome experience with light puzzles, cozy vibes, and a retro aesthetic that has been designed to play well both on both old-school handhelds and on modern platforms.

While Toni Island Adventure was originally developed for Game Boy Color, it will be making its way to Steam on July 24th, 2025, from where it will be available for PC, Linux, Steam Deck, and macOS.

The game was developed by Frolic Studio; a Brazilian indie developer focused on creating heartfelt and nostalgic experiences with a modern twist. Toni Island Adventure is their first commercial release, and it  will launch at USD 9.99 / €9.75 / £8.50 / CA$ 12.99 / R$ 34,90 / ¥ 1,200, with a 10% discount during the first week.

A Digital Deluxe Edition will also be available, which includes the original 8-bit soundtrack and a retro-style instruction and art booklet, reminiscent of Game Boy manuals.

My love of gaming began way back in 1986 with the ZX Spectrum, before becoming a lifelong Nintendo fan in 1990 with the Game Boy. And although I keep up with modern gaming, we all know you can't beat retro classics (or maybe I'm just old!)
