This week’s release in Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2 lines of emulated coin-op titles for modern consoles has been announced as TX-1, a racing game that was developed by Tatsumi Electronics, then released into arcades in Japan by Namco in 1983, before receiving an American release from Atari the same year. Atari would then go on to release TX-1 in Europe a year later, and the game was released elsewhere in the Eastern hemisphere by Taito. The game can perhaps be seen as a spiritual successor of the Namco-developed and Atari-released Pole Position from a year earlier, as the similarities between the two games are striking.
Hamster Corporation describes TX-1 as follows: “Enjoy a powerful race, unique to the triple-screen display. The course splits along the way, where deserts, coastlines, and city nightscapes dynamically flash past. Goals all around the world?! Cross the finish line and claim your glorious checkered flag!”
These releases of TX-1 follow last week’s Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2 releases of the rather less conventional Armadillo Racing, on which we reported at the time.
The Arcade Archives version of TX-1 will be released on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 tomorrow (July 30, 2026), priced at $7.99 USD or local equivalent.
Meanwhile, the Arcade Archives 2 version of TX-1, which adds a new Time Attack mode to the game, will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $9.99 USD or local equivalent.
As usual, purchasers of the Arcade Archives version of the game on Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4 can upgrade to the Arcade Archives 2 version on Nintendo Switch 2 or PlayStation 5 respectively for $2.99 USD or local equivalent.
