Undertale to head over to 3DS This Month

Undertale, the phenomenally successful retro-styled episodic indie RPG, is set to receive an unofficial fan port to the Nintendo 3DS, via the dev team Project Sunshine, which specializes in unofficial fan ports of games to the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, with previous projects from the team including a Wii U port of Undertale.

Project Sunshine’s Nintendo 3DS port of Undertale is set to be released later this month, delayed from its original ETA of June 2026, and you can follow the game’s progress via Project Sunshine’s Discord server, from where you will be able to download the game once it’s released.

The critically acclaimed Undertale was originally released on OSX and Windows in 2015, followed by ports to all major consoles of the day, and even to the PlayStation Vita, and soon, you’ll also be able to enjoy the game on Nintendo 3DS, albeit unofficially.

The Nintendo 3DS fan port of Undertale promises to offer format-specific features such as: 3D visuals, and use of the bottom screen as a touch screen.

Project Sunshine is also working on a Wii U fan port of Undertale’s sequel, Deltarune, which was released episodically on PC and console between 2018 and 2025.

This Undertale port isn’t the only Nintendo 3DS fan port that’s piqued our interest recently, having also previously reported on a Nintendo 3DS port of The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.
