We’ve been following the story of UrbX Warriors: The Lost City, including chatting with the gaming legends behind it, in a great interview last year. The arcade adventure game has been in development for Spectrum Next and PC for some time and is getting closer to release. In the meantime, Tony Warriner and Stoo Cambridge have been keeping themselves double busy by also developing a 16-bit version of the game for Sega Genesis and Amiga alongside the original game. This new retro version of UrbX Warriors, subtitled 16-Edition, is currently going through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise vital funds towards a physical release.
As you would imagine, given the pedigree of the developers behind UrbX Warriors, famous for working on the Broken Sword series and Sensible Soccer among many other classics, this Kickstarter has crushed the initial goal. At the time of writing, the crowdfunding campaign is sitting at just under $40,000 and still has over three weeks to run. There are various editions of the port to purchase, including different regions as well as a big box Amiga CD32 version. We also recommend checking out the excellent launch trailer, which has Stoo and Tony uncovering a Delorean in a garage.
We were lucky enough to try a sample build of UrbX Warriors on the Genesis back at a game convention in June. From the snippet we played, the controls felt very tight, and the action could’ve been out of a game released in 1995. We’ve big hopes for this 16-bit version of the game being just as good as the newer platform version, and are excited to see more gameplay soon.
