We’ll level with you, we lifted that headline straight from the press release for Volvy’s Adventure: Reslimed, because it amused us. In fact, one of the main reasons we;’re covering Volvy’s Adventure at all is because the press release amused us so much, but it turns out that the game actually looks pretty decent, too.
Volvy’s Adventure: Reslimed is a new 2D platformer based around publisher Devolver Digital’s (fictitious) mascot character, Volvy, and if the press release for the game is anything to go by, Devolver Digital is looking to emulate the jarring juxtaposition of cutesy platforming and adult humor that Rare pulled off so well with Conker’s Bad Fur Day on the Nintendo 64.
Announcing the game, Devolver Digital claimed that: “offensively talented developer Doinksoft along with everyone’s sixth favorite games publisher Devolver Digital announced that the much-anticipated remaster of the original remake of the hit action-platformer, Volvy’s Adventure, will hit Steam on Nov. 19, ” adding: “Tasteful video game aficionados can pre-order Volvy’s Adventure: Reslimed on Steam with a 25 percent discount on the $4.99 base price, or they can buy GTAVI for $100 like some sucker.”
Devolver Digital describes Volvy’s Adventure Reslimed as follows: “adventure across four revamped worlds full of naughty baddies and menacing boss fights while collecting delicious onions to keep Volvy at extreme levels of awesome! Whip out your big hand for whatever comes your way – from helicoptering over huge chasms and grinding radical rails to dashing through the skies and fisting your way deep underground. And just when you think you’ve met your match, scarf down a bundle of onions to transform into the muscular Swolvy and rage your way out of any situation.” It also said that: “there’s some sort of story too. Basically some warlocks released some slime and Volvy is stopping them. Also, they kidnapped his friends.”
The features that Devolver Digital claims will be offered by the game are…
“Adventure is in Your Big Hand. Any ol’ video game mascot can run, jump and stomp their way through levels, but Volvy and his big hand take it up a notch! Use your oversized appendage to hover, grind, burrow and smash through every enemy, obstacle and secret passage. Reslimed and recolored, every pixel from the original Volvy’s Adventure and its previous re-releases has been meticulously redrawn, redesigned and splashed with dazzling color by the members of the original development team that are no longer incarcerated. More New Content, Less Health Warnings. Enjoy redesigned minigames between each level that no longer encourage children to smoke cigarettes.”
Gameplay-wise, the 2D platformer looks to be in a similar vein to Doinksoft and Devolver Digital’s earlier collaboration, Dark Scrolls, on which we reported previously.
