War Asunder is a new pixel art deckbuilder roguelike from Plutonium Powered that is currently in development for Steam. The game has a new demo to try, with an expected release of the full game on December 1st, 2026. War Asunder is a roguelike card battler built around the classic card game War. Battles begin with the familiar high-card-wins rules, but players can manipulate the odds through elemental cards, character abilities, relics, upgrades, and other effects as they progress through a branching campaign.
The game features multiple playable characters, five elemental card types-Poison, Freeze, Lightning, Leech, and Energy-along with shops, encounters, bosses, and persistent progression. The result is a game that’s immediately recognizable to anyone who has played War, but gradually turns that simple card game into something much more strategic.
War Asunder takes the instantly recognizable card game of War and turns it into a strategic roguelike adventure. The basic rules are easy for viewers to understand immediately, while elemental cards, character abilities, relics, upgrades, shops, and branching encounters give creators plenty of opportunities to develop their own strategies and react to unexpected situations.
Battles can change quickly as enemies multiply, powerful elemental effects trigger, and a seemingly simple card flip turns into a critical moment. Between battles, creators make choices about their route, upgrades, purchases, and how to build their deck, helping each run develop differently and giving viewers plenty to discuss along the way.
War Asunder is also designed around relatively short, easy-to-follow encounters, making it suitable for both edited videos and livestreams. Its combination of familiar playing cards, dark fantasy characters, corrupted environments, and unusual take on a childhood card game gives creators an easy hook for introducing the game to their audience.
