90s-Style Platformer Windswept Sweeping onto PC & Consoles Next Month

Windswept characters

Windswept is an upcoming new “90s buddy platform game,” for modern formats, which has been described by its developers Weatherfell and publishers Top Hat Studios Inc. as a “charming, cute, and dastardly difficult,” game in which the player takes “control of two unlikely friends – Marbles the duck and Checkers the turtle – as they try to make their way home after being swept away in a storm,” in a “game inspired heavily by 90’s classic (and hard!) platformers such as Donkey Kong Country and Yoshi’s Island.”

Well, Windswept certainly seems to be drawings its inspiration from some beloved retro classics, so the game should be right up our street at Retro News (and if you’re reading this, we suspect it’ll be up your street too!

Weatherfell and Top Hat Studios Inc. also say of Windswept, that it channels “the spirit of 90’s classic content stuffed and skill-based platformers,” offering “over 40 main levels – each with their own set of hidden collectibles, bonus challenges and quirky obstacles to overcome… or fall victim to. Featuring five different uniquely themed zones, distinct types of mechanics and challenges present themselves depending on the biome,” adding that: “players will need not only the skill, but smarts to figure out the best path forward – Marbles and Checkers each have a unique set of movement skills, and you’ll need to figure out the best combo/sequence to make it through Windswept’s various challenges! In addition, a variety of friendly critters are waiting to be befriended during the journey – ranging from a dolphin to a licky-lizard – who our main heroes can team up with/ride, bringing new sets of abilities into the fold and creating even more ways to traverse stages.”

Windswept is set to leap onto PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4&5, and Xbox One & Series X|S on November 11, 2025.
