We previously reported that French video game publisher Broke Studio planned to release three previously Japan-only classic Jaleco titles as physical releases on on retro formats in the West for the first time. We also reported that the first of these three titles was to be the NES platform game Pizza Pop! Now Broke Studio has revealed that the second Jaleco game heading West for the first time will be a Game Boy game titled Fortified Zone 2.
Fortified Zone 2, known as Ikari no Yōsai 2, in Japan, Fortified Zone 2 is a shooter released by Jaleco for Game Boy in 1992, but only in Japan. Now, thanks to Broke Studio’s Homebrew Factory publishing platform, the game will be getting a physical Game Boy release in the West for the very first time, some 33 years after it made its Japanese debut.
The first Fortified Zone Game Boy game did make it to the West in 1991, but its 1992 sequel did not follow. Until now, that is!
Fortified Zone 2 will be released as a physical Game Boy cartridge via Homebrew Factory on June 3rd 2025.
That leaves us with just one Jaleco game that has previously not been released in the West yet to be revealed by Broke Studio…
