Mawthorne 2 is the sequel to Mawthorne, an NES title developed using the powerful NESMaker tool. The sequel has been expected by fans and hit its crowdfunding goal in less than an hour and has gone on to hit over 200% of what was needed to bring the titles to physical carts. Developer CrazyGroupTrio Games has confirmed the game is complete, and the funding was needed just to help bring the game to physical carts.
It has been improved from the original Mawthorne and boasts more technical accomplishments while aiming to keep the fun action-adventure gameplay intact. CrazyGroupTrio Games has explained they want Mawthorne 2 has been “designed to be a fun, enjoyable and rewarding experience from beginning to end”. Those wanting to give the game a try before they pre-order can do so by downloading the demo designed for emulators and SD card carts.
The Kickstarter campaign has several options, including a digital-only release as well as a cart-only, cart and outer box, and a limited edition that includes a few extras. The publishing is being handled by retro specialists Broke Studio, and the game is expected to ship in October 2025.
