Sonic Wings Special is his week’s release in Hamster Corporation’s Console Archives line of emulated console titles, following on from last week’s release of Nobunaga’s Ambition, on which we previously reported.

Following last week’s 8-bit historical simulation, this week Hamster Corporation is treating us to a 32-bit shoot ‘em up, in the form of Sonic Wings Special, which was originally released by Video System for Sega Saturn and PlayStation some 30 years ago in 1996.

The game incorporates features of its arcade predecessors, Sonic Wings, Sonic Wings 2, and Sonic Wings 3, and it also received an arcade port under the title Sonic Wings Limited (Aero Fighters Special in North America).

Hamster Corporation describes Sonic Wings Special as follows: “in this shooting game, a diverse group of fighter pilots from around the world battle to stop a coup staged by an evil organization. The game features a multi-ending system where the story route changes based on the player’s choices. Choose your ultimate partner and fight to restore world peace!”

The Sonic Wings series recently returned to modern formats in the form of Sonic Wings Reunion, as we previously reported.

As per previous Console Archives releases, Sonic Wings Special is available now on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. The Console Archives version of Sonic Wings Special was released yesterday, and it is priced at $11.99 USD (or local equivalent).
