In a post on its Discord server, HarbourMasters 64, a team of developers that specializes in porting Nintendo 64 titles to PC, has stated that it will be dropping the ‘64’ from its name, and it will be henceforth known simply as ‘HarbourMasters‘. This is because in addition to porting Nintendo 64 games to PC, the group has updated its “translation layer” technology to allow the porting GameCube titles to PC as well, and they’ve even announced that the first GameCube port to use the updated translation layer technology will be a PC port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, titled Twilight Princess: Courage Reborn, which has been created independently of HarbourMasters, by Linifadomra.
On its website, HarbourMasters says that its PC ports of games offer a whole host of features and enhancements to the games that it ports, including: 4K & ultrawide resolutions; enhanced framerates; support for a number of console controllers, as well as generic controllers; cross-platform support, including Windows, Linux, and macOS; quality of life enhancements; and mod support.
HarbourMasters also states that its ports are native PC ports, and are faithful to the originals, as well as being free and open source.
We previously reported on HarbourMasters 64’s enhanced PC port of Star Fox 64, titled Starship, as well as reporting on a PS Vita port of Super Mario 64 that was made possible using HarbourMasters 64’s PC port of the game, titled GhostShip.
But ssh! Don’t tell Nintendo…
