PSX-inspired Survival Horror Title Doctor Viscera Gets Major Update

Doctor Viscera is a horror title from developer Liminal Studio and publisher Nuntius Games, released on Steam in October 2025. It’s heavily inspired by classic PlayStation-era horror games and has received a major update titled the Definitive Edition. The survival horror experience places players inside the abandoned GrimmHaus Asylum, where escaping is the only way to avoid becoming yet another victim of Doctor Viscera‘s grotesque experiments.

The biggest addition in the Definitive Edition is Nurse, a brand-new enemy who actively pursues players throughout the campaign. Although slower than Doctor Viscera himself, she introduces an entirely new gameplay dynamic through ranged attacks with a firearm, forcing players to rethink their routes, strategies, and survival tactics.

According to the team at Liminal Road, the decision to adopt a PlayStation-inspired aesthetic came from the studio’s passion for classic visuals, as well as the creative freedom they provide for crafting strange and unsettling environments. The team at Liminal Road has already confirmed its intention to continue expanding the world of Doctor Viscera in the future.

The update also includes:

New drawer and cabinet interaction system

New player model

Level design changes

Reworked library puzzle

Immersive audio system

Controller support

Visual upgrade for the cemetery

Rain effects that enhance the atmosphere

8 new achievements

Performance improvements and bug fixes
