When legacy publisher System 3 announced their Last Ninja Collection last year, as we reported at the time, it also teased that a collection of James Pond games was also in the works for modern consoles, and now, the publisher has confirmed that James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 this October, and its physical release will be limited to just 6,000 units. Also, everyone who pre-orders James Pond Legacy: The Pond is Not Enough will receive a download of James Pond music, includinga brand-new track, called “Maybe.”
The collection features 12 versions of four James Pond games, which will be: James Pond: Underwater Agent, James Pond 2: RoboCod, James Pond 3: Operation Starfish, and The Aquatic Games Starring James Pond and the Aquabats. The included versions are taken from the Amiga 500, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, SNES, and Commodore 64.
Each title will also be enhanced with modern features, such as multiple save slots, controller rumble, adjustable scanline controls, in-game audio options, and custom bezels.
The collection also introduces the all-new Pondverse, an interactive hub that brings characters, villains, bosses, games, and memorable locations from throughout James Pond history together for the first time.
Players can dive deeper into the franchise through detailed character profiles, biographies of its heroes and villains, insights into the games and their iconic levels, and newly crafted 3D artwork inspired by the original pixel art. The Pondverse also features authentic box and packaging artwork alongside a comprehensive timeline charting the evolution of the series.
“James Pond has never been an ordinary hero, and this was never going to be an ordinary collection,” said Mark Cale, Founder and CEO at System 3. “This release is about preserving the different versions, soundtracks, artwork, and unmistakable personality that shaped the series, while making them enjoyable for players today. With the new Pondverse and a limited physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition, longtime fans and new recruits can explore the complete legacy of James Pond like never before.”
First introduced in 1990’s 16-bit platform game James Pond: Underwater Agent, James Pond combined colorful platforming with playful secret-agent parody. A potential new James Pond game was also hinted at by System 3, when it commented: “James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough preserves that history while preparing Pond for his next mission.”
James Pond Legacy: The Pond Is Not Enough will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in October 2026, and you can find out more at the game’s official website, where the exact release date will also be announced soon.
