Could F-Zero be set to zoom onto Game Boy Color?

Shane McCafferty, of Game Boy Color homebrew development team Rocketship Park, on whose games Wolf, OutRun GB, and Hero GP we have reported previously, has taken to X to tease the possibility of bringing a “a Mode 7 racer” to Game Boy Color. That description, along with a short clip posted to X, suggests that Rocketship Park may ne  intending to create a fan port of F-Zero for Game Boy Color.

F-Zero was originally released as a launch title for the SNES back in 1990, when it impressed gamers ith its stunning “mode 7” scaling, and while the series never made it to the Game Boy Color, it did make it to the Game Boy Advance, in the form of the launch title F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, in 2001.

As always, we’ll be keeping a close eye on any developments. It’ll certainly be interesting to prose how the humble Game Boy Color can handle the futuristic racing thrills of F-Zero, but with Hero GP and OutRun GB, Rocketship Park has already proven that the GBC is more than capable of hosting high-velocity arcade racers.

If you’re a PC gamer, and you’d like to try out some of Rocketship Park’s previous titles without the need for an emulator, publisher Thalamus Digital recently published a compilation of 10 of them (including Hero GP) as a handy executable file, as we reported previously.
