Netflix Picks up Crazy Taxi Movie

According to a report in Variety, Crazy Taxi is set to be adapted into a comedy movie by Sega and Netflix, to be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who also wrote the screenplay for last year’s Naked Gun reboot.

Perhaps the time is right for a Crazy Taxi movie adaptation, with the series currently high in gamers’ consciousness, thanks to the hotly anticipated Crazy Taxi: World Tour, on which we’ve reported previously.

Remarkably, the Crazy Taxi movie isn’t the only movie based on a Sega arcade racer that’s reportedly currently in development, as we’ve previously reported on a potential Out Run movie.

Other projects in the works from Sega and Netflix, according to Variety, include a new Sonic animated series aimed at pre-schoolers, and an adaptation of the upcoming Yakuza title Stranger Than Heaven.

The Variety piece also stated that Netflix is also working on other video game adaptations, including a live action Assassin’s Creed series, and a live action Gears of War movie.
But who knows if the proposed Crazy Taxi comedy movie will ever get off the starting blocks, or if the project will stall before it ever gets made? As fans of the Crazy Taxi series since the Dreamcast game, We hope we’ll get to both play Crazy Taxi: World Tour and watch the Crazy Taxi movie on Netflix in the not-too-distant future!
