90s-Style Cute ‘Em Up Astro Burn Kickstarter Blasts Off

Astro Burn is a new 90s-style side-scrolling shoot ‘em up in the “cute ‘em up” subgenre, inspired by the likes of Parodius and Pop’n TwinBee.

While Astro Burn launched on Steam last month, the game’s developer, Beyond the Pixel, would also like to publish a physical version of the game.

We reported previously on plans to launch a Kickstarter to produce a physical USB version of Astro Burn for PC and Mac, and now, that Kickstarter campaign has launched, with two options available for backers.

Developer Beyond the Pixel’s aim with the physical versions of Astro Burn is apparently to bring back that nostalgic feeling of owning a physical product when you buy a game.

The physical versions of Astro Burn on offer as Kickstarter rewards are: the ‘Core Edition, ‘which comes with the USB dongle in a Super Famicom-style box and a full color instruction booklet, along with an additional Steam Key to play the game; and the limited edition (limited to 250 units) ‘Collectors Edition,’ which includes the ‘Core Edition’ along with a 20-page art design notes booklet, a set of art cards, a numbered certificate of authenticity, and the original Soundtrack on limited-edition translucent orange audio cassette.

At the time of writing, the Astro Burn Kickstarter has raised 2,803 of its £5,000 goal from 34 backers, with 28 days still left to run on the campaign.
