Detective Dotson is an adventure title from developer Masala Games, originally released on PC earlier in 2025. Now, Japanese publisher Rainy Frog has picked up the distribution rights to bring this charming puzzle-solving game to Switch, set for release later this year. Detective Dotson blends retro pixel art with 3D backgrounds set in the busy streets of a small Indian town. There was no news of a physical release, so we’ll assume this will be digital only for now.

Detective Dotson centres around its titular character, who wants to be a Bollywood star. Sadly, his father, who wished for him to follow in the family trade of being a street detective, has been killed. Now, reluctantly, Dotson must become Detective Dotson and solve his father’s murder by uncovering evidence and piecing it together. 

The game features four interconnected cases, each with its own bizarre twist: a pink painted dog, lost jewellery, and notorious gangsters. Each mystery brings you a step closer to the dramatic reveal of what really happened to Dotson’s father. Players will talk to quirky townsfolk, examine exotic environments for clues, and make deductive leaps on the clue board. All this is accompanied by a charming and foot-tapping original soundtrack perfect for exploring the streets of India.

Furthermore, the game’s designers have made it their mission to show India in its best light. In a press statement, Masala Games said. “18 percent of the world lives in India, our home. It’s the most diverse and interesting place on the planet. But, you really don’t get to see it in games much, do you? We’re pretty much non-existent. So we took it upon ourselves at Masala Games to fix that. India is often (incorrectly) shown as poor or ancient in the media. We would like to help alter perception and to tell stories from modern India and represent our home more appropriately.”
