A 40-year-old Japanese home computer game titled Hercules has been released on Nintendo Switch today, under the rather unwieldy title of “EGGCONSOLE Hercules PC-8801mkIISR”.
Let us unpack that title for you: “EGGCONSOLE” is Japanese games company D4 Enterprise’s line of console releases for retro Japanese computer games, which is part of its “Project EGG (“Engrossing Game Gallery” program of emulating retro Japanese home computer games; Hercules is the actual game title; and PC-8801mkIISR is the format on which the game was originally released, which was an 8-bit home computer in the PC-8800 series. All clear?
Anyway, the game now apparently known as “EGGCONSOLE Hercules PC-8801mkIISR” was originally released by a company called Kogado Studio back in 1986, and Nintendo describes the aim of the game as being to: “take on the role of Herakuresu-kun, overcoming numerous trials on a journey to meet Lord Deus, adding that: “each stage is filled with interactive elements: blocks to move or destroy, springs for jumping, and essential items like axes and keys to unlock doors to the next room. Be on your guard, as enemies such as Saikoropusu, Kikantesu, and Kentaurosu also roam the levels.”
EGGCONSOLE Hercules PC-8801mkIISR is an 8-bit action puzzle game with over 40 stages, and you can buy it from the Nintendo Store now for $6.49 USD or local equivalent.
This is our second piece of Nintendo Switch news today, following our previous post on the addition of Donkey Kong 64 to the Nintendo Classics catalog.
