GamerCard Developed by Clive Sinclair’s Nephew

GamerCard being held

GamerCard is a new gift card sized handheld “gaming computer” powered by a Raspberry Pi.

The new device has been created by Grant Sinclair, who is the nephew of none other than Sir Clive Sinclair, who is the inventor of (amongst other things), the ever-popular 8-bit Sinclair ZX Spectrum home computer.

GamerCard is described as “a ready-to-play handheld gaming computer—engineered in the shape and size of a retail gift card, with a Raspberry Pi and a Hi-res (254 PPI) 4” square IPS screen sandwiched inside.” The device is further described as “a convenient emulation device capable* of running thousands of games from multiple classic systems—ideal for retro fans, developers, and educators alike.”

The device comes pre-loaded with two action games,a platform game titled “Bloo Kid 2”, and a rhythm based shoot ‘em up titled “AstroBlaze DX,” with more to come via the GamerCard’s Pi games store app. The GamerCard is also compatible with Pico-8 titles, as well as being able to run a number of emulators for retro consoles and arcade games.

You can currently purchase GamerCard direct from Grant Sinclair’s website for £125.00, but the long-term plan appears to be for GamerCard to be sold at retail alongside gift cards.
