Field Day is this week’s Archives release, following on from last week’s release of the shoot ‘em up Stinger, on which we previously reported.
As usual, Hamster Corporation has released this week’s Arcade Archives title for both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
And once more, Hamster Corporation has delved back over 40 years into the Arcade Archives, to bring a game from the earlier days of coin-op video gaming to modern audiences.
Field Day is a sports game that was originally released by Taito in 1984, and it’s rather in the vein of Konami’s popular Track and Field, which was released a year earlier, in 1983, but with somewhat quirkier events also on offer.
In Field Day, players compete in a variety of seven non-conventional sporting events from three-legged race to tug-of-war in an effort to become the sports day champion.
Each event features a qualifying score which must be met to progress.
With Field Day, Hamster Corporation has unearthed yet another intriguing obscurity from the Arcade Archives, and it’s one that I’m sure even many of us seasoned retro gamers won’t have played before!
The Arcade Archives version of Field Day was released yesterday (July 31st, 2025) on both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, at the usual price of $7.99 (or local equivalent).
