Kero Kero Cowboy is a new homebrew platform game for GameBoy Color and Analogue Pocket, developed by GameBoy homebrew developer Metagame Mike, and it was released today (May 7th 2025).
The GameBoy Color seems to be a popular platform for homebrew developers, with GameBoy Color titles on which we’ve recently reported including Hero GP, and a forthcoming fan port of OutRun.
Kero Kero Cowboy is available now via itch.io. The full digital game costs just $9.99, and a free demo is also available if you’d like to try before you buy.
Like so many homebrew games these days, production of Kero Kero Cowboy was funded by a Kickstarter campaign, which in this case, raised an impressive $13,171 from 459 backers.
The developer describes Kero Kero Cowboy’s gameplay as follows: “Kero Kero is a frog on a journey to wrangle the wild west’s most dangerous outlaws & bring peace to the untamed land. Face dastardly foes, perilous platforming challenges, and intense shootouts across deserts, mines, mountains, trains, forests, and beyond!”
Developer Metagame Mike has previously developed homebrew games for GameBoy titled Birdie Bartender and Sushi Gun, both or which are also available from his itch.io page alongside the newly-released Kero Kero Cowboy.
