Last Ditch Effort is a forthcoming new anime-inspired 2D pixel art action-adventure game by developer Moonwell Games.
The Steam page for Last-Ditch Effort says that: “Last-Ditch Effort is a narrative-driven pixel-art character-action game featuring fast, expressive combat where you are the one in control. Take the role of Igor Emmerich and battle through dramatic encounters brought to life with handcrafted animation and told through stylized comic-book storytelling.”
The game promises to offer pixel art animation with “every frame. No tweening, just fast, heavy, fluid combat.”
Last-Ditch Effort was given its world premiere yesterday (August 26, 2026) at Gamescom 2026, during the prestigious Future Games Show.
Being premiered at such a high-profile event proves just how popular retro-inspired pixel art games are these days, which can only be a good thing for retro gamers like us.
Last-Ditch Effort’s looking pretty promising so far, and the game is set to be published by Trellis Inc. on Steam next year, and you can wishlist it now.
This week has seen a slew of retro-friendly trailers making their debut at Gamescom 2026, including new gameplay trailers for Crazy Taxi: World Tour and Mega Man: Dual Override, on which we reported previously.
