Heidi, Girl of the Alps a beloved anime known for the contributions of acclaimed creators Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki, is marking its 50th anniversary since its initial broadcast. To commemorate this milestone, a special anniversary watch created in collaboration with Seiko has been released. Originally airing in 1974, the anime is based on a novel by Swiss author Johanna Spyri and has solidified its place as a timeless masterpiece in the world of animation. With Takahata and Miyazaki’s involvement in the production, the series first aired on January 6, 1974, and consisted of a total of 52 episodes.

 

The newly introduced anniversary watch by Seiko is a commemorative timepiece featuring a sky-blue dial adorned with the snow-capped Alm mountains and drifting white clouds. The leather strap, made of deep navy blue cow leather, perfectly complements the sky blue aesthetic. The watch showcases the Alm fir tree and the grandfather’s hut at the 12 o’clock position, while silhouettes of Heidi and her friend Peter shine in gold at the 6 o’clock position. The back cover is engraved with a profile of Heidi and the limited edition number of 1974 pieces. This limited special set includes a music box playing the nostalgic opening theme and a set of photo cards depicting the opening scene.
