Mister Scary is a new horror-themed homebrew platform game for NES that smashed its Kickstarter target earlier this year, as we previously reported, and now, in plenty of time for Halloween later this month, Mister Scary is available to buy digitally, as a downloadable NES ROM.
In the game, Mister Scary, a purple monster, has lost his family, and taking the role of Mister Scary, the player has to navigate their way through the creepies and crawlies of a strange and spooky land to find them! The game is a Halloween-themed platforming game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, that was directly inspired by a toddler’s imaginary friend and brought to life by developer Calgames.
Key features of Mister Scary include: “six scary stages, each with their own sub-areas; six different scary bosses; enemies on which to stomp, or even torch or freeze after eating a spicy or icy snack; Scary tokens to collect, with 15 tokens earning an extra life; a scary world map to guide the player through their adventure; and a scary game soundtrack by Logan E. Schad and Kevin Van Der Burg.”
Mister Scary has been developed by Calgames, which is “an independent development studio dedicated to creating imaginative, character-driven games with a mix of humor, creativity, and retro charm.”
The NES ROM of Mister Scary is available to purchase now for $9.98 USD, via itch.io.
