Portable GameCube Being Made by Modder

portable GameCube

A portable GameCube is the current project of a Nintendo modder who goes by the name of Redherring32, as he has revealed on X.

Redherring32’s portable GameCube promises an array of impressive features, including a directly driven 480p laminated IPS panel, USB-C PD charging, Wireless four-player multiplayer, and even compatibility with Game Boy cartridges! RedHerring32 says that his portable GameCube will be not much bigger than a GameCube disc and will be a similar size to a Game Boy Advance, and the portable GameCube certainly looks very cool, so far!

We can’t help but wish that this were an official Nintendo product that was receiving an official release, but we guess we’ll just have to make do with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack GameCube selection on Nintendo Classics on Switch 2, on which we previously reported, for our portable GameCube gaming fix. We wonder what the next GameCube games to be added to the Switch 2’s Nintendo Classics selection will be? The most recent title to be added to the service was Super Mario Strikers, on which we previously reported.

Previous Nintendo modding projects worked on by Redherring32 have included OpenTendo, and open-source hardware recreation of the original 1985 front-loading NES motherboard.
