Prince of Persia, the beloved action platform game was first released by Broderbund for the Apple II computer in 1989 before receiving ports ro several other formats and a number of sequels over the years.
And now, the original Prince of Persia game is getting ported to yet another machines, albeit an unofficial fan port in this instance.
The latest machine to receive a port of Prince of Persia is the PlayDate, which is a monochrome handheld console that was launched in 2022, and which offers a rather unusual input device in the form of a mechanical crank, in addition to the standard D-pad and buttons.
The PlayDate fan port of Prince of Persia is being developed by PlayDate homebrew developer AshlarCrank, who has previously produced fan ports of games such as Rogue, Spelunky, and Lode Runner for the PlayDate, as well as developing original homebrew titles for the console.
While the PlayDate fan port of Prince of Persia is not yet complete, and is still “extremely buggy” according to its developer, a demo of the game is available to download from itch.io, on a ‘name your own price’ basis.
The most recent official Prince of Persia game to be released was a roguelike platformer titled ‘The Rogue Prince of Persia,’ on which we reported previously.
