From its humble beginnings as an Amiga homebrew game, the retro-inspired turn-based strategy game Rougecraft has been ported to several other formats, especially in its expanded Roguecraft DX form. We have previously reported on releases of the game on a number of formats both modern and retro, including release on Mega 65, Game Boy Color, Steam, and Evercade.
The game’s publisher, Thalamus Digital, describes Roguecraft DX as follows: a “retro-inspired, turn-based roguelike! Explore procedurally-generated dungeons laden with mysterious potions, secret rooms, and scary chickens.”
And somewhat appropriately, the next machine to receive a port of the critically acclaimed Roguecraft DX is itself a blend of the retro and modern, namely the modern reimagining of the ZX Spectrum home computer, the ZX Spectrum Next.
Despite being a niche specialist machine, the ZX Spectrum Next has a dedicated, loyal following, and the format is amassing quite a catalog of retro games for itself, such as O, and Xeno Brigade Extinction, on both of which we have previously reported, and soon, that catalog of games will be bolstered further with the release of the popular Roguecraft DX!
The ZX Spectrum Next version of Roguecraft DX is set for release sometime in Q2 of 2026, and you can follow the game’s publisher, Thalamus Digital, on itch.io to be kept up to date on Roguecraft DX’s ZX Spectrum Next release.
The trailer below is for the Evercade release of the game.
