Sega Universe Promises To Stay Gold With New IP Anniversaries Initiative

SEGA UNIVERSE

Sega has opened a new website that will be “taking on new developments for classic IPs”. The new website has been described as shining “a light on beloved past works that continue to be cherished by fans, and share new ways to enjoy them that transcend the world of games”. Although no concrete details have been announced, the premise seems to be a celebration of specific Sega franchise anniversary dates and will include new “engaging content”.

What any of this means is anyone’s guess, of course, but the Sega Universe website has already started charting significant anniversaries such as OutRun‘s 40th, Streets of Rage‘s 35th, and Nights into Dreams‘ 30th. A flashy video introduces the concept of Sega Universe, and the website already has some embedded music tracks from some classic games, as well as some information about some of Sega‘s classic franchises.

There is also some content on there that allows you to interact, although it doesn’t seem to do much beyond letting you click buttons on a Genesis controller to unlock videos and links to soundtracks. Whatever will come from this new initiative, we’ll sure be checking back on the new Sega Universe website frequently to see what Sega is celebrating next. With last year’s news of Sega bringing back old franchises in actual game form, as well as new films based on its franchises, Sega seems determined to keep retro fans happy.
