Suspect Arrested for Sending Death Threats to Nintendo Staff

Intimidating Nintendo Leads to Dire Outcomes. Suspect Arrested for Sending Death Threats to Staff

Nintendo was all set to host their Nintendo Live 2023 Tokyo this past December. However, the organizers of the event were forced to cancel the festival, as well as the official tournaments for Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, to ensure the safety of the staff. Ultimately, the employees had received several death threats and now, weeks after the decision, the arrest of a suspect has been confirmed.

As reported by the Japanese publication Kyoto Shimbun (via 4Gamer), authorities in Japan have apprehended a man in his twenties who is allegedly responsible for the threats sent to Nintendo’s staff. It appears that the suspect was using the contact form on the official website of Nintendo to convey his messages to the team.

Details from the Japanese newspaper do not reveal the reasons behind the arrested individual’s actions, so the origin of his vendetta against the Japanese company remains unknown. Additionally, Nintendo has not made any statements regarding the arrest, leaving the future plans for Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo and the Splatoon/Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournaments uncertain.
