Nintendo Switch Online, as you probably know, hosts a selection of games from earlier Nintendo systems, recently rebranded as “Nintendo Classics”, and for subscribers to the top tier Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, the systems in question include the 64-bit Nintendo 64.
Up until now, the Nintendo 64 titles available on Nintendo Switch Online have been bare bones emulated versions of the games, but Nintendo has revealed that three new features will be coming to the Switch Online Nintendo 64 games, as of June 5th, 2025. And yes, that date is significant, as it is the launch date of the Nintendo Switch 2, but one of the new features will also be available to subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on the original Nintendo Switch console.
On Nintendo Switch 2, subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will benefit from three new features on Nintendo 64 games. These will be: rewind, a CRT screen filter, and the ability to view and change the controls. The original Switch will only receive the ability to view and change controls.
The new features have only been announced for Nintendo 64 games on Nintendo Classics, but the same date will also be bringing GameCube to the service on Switch 2, as we previously reported, and we do not yet know what, if any, quality of life improvements will be offered on the Nintendo Classics GameCube games. We guess we’ll find on June 5th, when Switch 2 finally launches!
