Countless studios have drawn inspiration from timeless games like The Legend of Zelda, a trailblazer in many ways. You might be familiar with Tunic, whose protagonist is a complete homage to Link, and there’s now an indie game on the horizon that’s looking very promising. It’s called Castaway, an action-adventure game developed by Canari Games, which makes no secret of its admiration for Nintendo’s title. It boasts gameplay, graphics, and a soundtrack reminiscent of the classic, so go ahead and add it to your wishlist on Steam.
Castaway kicks off much like Link’s Awakening, on an unfamiliar island. Martin’s spaceship has crashed, and his pet has been abducted by antagonistic creatures. The player must explore this new world to find their weapons and save their furry friend, an utterly adorable puppy.
