We first reported on the upcoming Thunder Hoop Collection back in May this year. Since then, we saw more footage in a new trailer during developer QUByte Interactive’s Reconnect showcase in June. Now, Thunder Hoop Collection has a release date and will be out on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2026.
The Thunder Hoop Collection has been developed in partnership with Bleem! and includes 1992’s Thunder Hoop and its sequel, 1994’s TH Strikes Back. Both games were originally developed for arcades by Gaelco that was seen as a pioneer of new ideas and spearheaded the Spanish arcade scene. Gaelco‘s arcade history has seen a resurgence of late, with titles such as Biomechanical Toy, which we took a look at, getting first releases to home consoles as well as a recently announced sports compilation.
Long before global franchises dominated the scene, European arcades were packed with homegrown technical marvels. Thunder Hoop stood out with a bizarre and unforgettable identity: what happens when you combine Akira Toriyama’s iconic Dragon Ball aesthetic (spiky black hair, martial arts gi, and devastating ki palm blasts) with the visceral creature design of H.R. Giger (Alien), David Cronenberg, and John Carpenter (The Thing)?
