Truxton Extreme is a new version of Truxton, Toaplan’s 1988 arcade shoot ‘em up, which has seen something of a resurgence in recent years, and which was recently showcased in the Evercade Highlight of the Month program, on which we previously reported.
However, the new Truxton Extreme is set to bring a whole host of impressive features to the popular shmup, including: eight chapters of arcade action accompanied by an animated comic-book story from manga artist and character designer, Junya Inoue, multiple weapons, including fan favorites from the original games, a new original soundtrack and reimagined classic tracks, a co-op team mode, in which players can join forces with fellow space fighters to defend Earth from the evil attackers, and multiple game modes, including Heart Starter mode for less experienced players.
This brand-new Truxton game will feature modern 3D visuals, while still preserving the series’ iconic design.
If you happen to be in Japan, a playable demo of Truxton Extreme will be at Tokyo Game Show between Thursday September 25th and Sunday September28th, 2025. This new demo has been updated and features a few extras that were not in the demo of the game shown at Gamescom. The Truxton Extreme demo will be available at Happinet’s booth in Hall 7, booth number 07-N12.
Truxton Extreme will be published by Clear River Games, a video game publisher specializing in classic and retro games, in partnership with Tatsujin, a Japanese video game publisher and developer, and it’s set to blast onto PC and PlayStation 5 soon, though it can be wishlisted now.
