Winsley’s Guardian, a new homebrew game for N64, is seeking funds on Kickstarter to become a reality.
The game’s developer, Guardian Games Studio, describes Winsley’s Guardian as “heartfelt action-RPG inspired by Link’s Awakening/EarthBound, following Winsley through life stages.” So, if you’re a fan of retro-style RPGs, Winsley’s Guardian could be well worth a look!
Guardian Games Studio previously released Winsley’s Guardian for the Game Boy Color, where is found great success, and now, they are porting their game to the Nintendo 64. Of the game’s success on Game Boy Color, Guardian Games Studio said, “we had no idea the impact it would make. What began as a deeply personal tribute became something much larger—a shared story of love, loss, and remembrance.”
However, Guardian Games Studio aren’t simply porting the Game Boy Color version of Winsley’s Guardian to the Nintendo 64, as they promise a slew of new features and enhancements, such as “40% More Content, with extended storylines, new areas, and fresh life elements expand the game to 10+ hours of playtime; vibrant colors, enhanced audio, aspect ratio options, and a rewind function;’” the ability to save anywhere, bug fixes and polish; new mini games, new places to explore; and new Easter Eggs to extend the game’s longevity.
Perks on offer in the Winsley’s Guardian Kickstarter campaign include a ROM of the game, the game on cartridge, and the game on cartridge in a box.
At the time of writing, the Kickstarter campaign to bring Winsley’s Guardian to the Nintendo 64 has raised £2,837 of its £5,617 goal, from 56 backers, and the campaign still has 43 days left to run, so it’s well on its way to making its quest to travel from Game Boy Color to Nintendo 64 a reality.
