Pixel Art Shooter Project Sentinel Announced For Steam

Project Sentinel is a new 16-bit-inspired run ‘n’ gun from solo developer Mark Jones. The developer has described Project Sentinel as a “pixel art cyberpunk run-and-gun platformer”, and it’s now available to wishlist on Steam. The announcement also confirmed that console ports were planned for the future.

Set in the crime-ridden streets of Storm City, Project Sentinel – Zero Tolerance puts players in control of the Sentinel, a cybernetic law enforcer built to restore order by any means necessary. Inspired by old-school run-and-gun shooters and dystopian 80s action cinema, Project Sentinel – Zero Tolerance blends heavy firepower, reactive enemies, civilian rescue, and a distinctive morale-breaking arrest system. The result is a slower, weightier take on the genre where controlling the chaos matters as much as surviving it.

At the heart of the game is the Sentinel’s cybernetic roar. Players can use the roar to intimidate criminals low on morale into surrendering, opening them up for arrests. It also forces nearby civilians into cover, helping keep them out of the crossfire during chaotic encounters. Arresting enemies can provide intel and improve the player’s final evaluation. Alternatively, lethal force often offers a faster and more brutal path through Storm City.

Players will also need to protect civilians caught in Storm City’s violence. Civilian casualties, arrests, kills, intel, and other performance metrics feed into an end-of-level evaluation system, presented with the cold bureaucracy of a dystopian police department.

Key features:

Become the Sentinel: Take control of a heavily armoured cybernetic police officer with a devastating roar that can intimidate criminals, force civilians into cover and turn chaotic encounters into moments of control.

Feel the weight of power: The Sentinel is slower than a typical run-and-gun hero, but is able to withstand far greater punishment.

Face reactive enemies: Groups of criminals chase, retreat, reposition and act according to their role, confidence and personality.

Arrest or eliminate: Bring surrendered suspects in alive to recover valuable intel, or use lethal force and risk losing information.

Protect civilians: Use the Sentinel’s roar to force citizens into cover and keep them safe from crossfire. Every civilian death affects your final evaluation.

Survive the final report: Each mission ends with a cold bureaucratic judgement of your performance. High scores are mandatory; poor results risk being deemed not economically viable.
