We’ve been following the progress of Retro Games Ltd.’s plug and play THEA1200 console, which is based on the 32-bit Amiga 1200 home computer, ever since it was officially unveiled, 12 months ago, at Gamescom 2025, more recently reporting on the free bonus ZZAP! Magazine that early buyers of the device will be treated to.
The astute amongst you may have noticed that by naming the machine “THEA1200,” Retro Games Ltd. deftly avoided any trademark infringement that may have arisen had they attempted to use the Amiga name, as per its previous THEA500 device, and as the company’s THE64 and THEVIC20 devices avoided using the Commodore brand, and THESpectrum didn’t use the Sinclair brand.
However, on August 18 2026, Retro Games Ltd. took to Facebook to announce that, following negotiations with the current Amiga owners, The Amiga Corporation, THEA1200 will now, in fact, be an official Amiga product.
Pre-orders for THEA1200 are currently open, with the machine set to ship on December 4th, 2026, following initial delays, on which we reported previously.
The Amiga 1200 (or A1200) home computer was originally released in 1992, as a successor to the phenomenally popular 16-bit Amiga 500, and as a companion product to the then recently released compact 16-bit Amiga 600 model .
