Sheeps is a new pixel art roguelike from developer Brainfruit Studio set for release on Steam in 2027. Sheeps promises to leave players questioning their ability to count for the first time since kindergarten. Health mechanics, upgrades, and the occasional unfair curse lend the game a robust progression system with endless replayability. The game also features a deep, story-rich narrative that lets players unpack the mystery of where all these sheep came from in the first place.
A cast of quirky animal characters, created by artist Garrett Miller and Emmy-winning writer Rob Dubbin (The Colbert Report, The Late Show), accompanies players, each with their own stories, secrets, and agendas. Players will meet a crafty spider, a sarcastic crow, a dye-obsessed chameleon, and a suspicious number of business llamas offering help… for a price.
“With Sheeps, we at Brainfruit feel we have finally solved wakefulness,” says Dubbin, who also co-directed the game. “Think of all the hours you weren’t counting sheep before, because it would have been disastrous to fall asleep at your job, or in mid-conversation. Thanks to the high-octane counting action of Sheeps, that problem will soon be a thing of the past.”
“Counting sheep sounds simple until they start flying, doubling back, and throwing little surprises at you,” says Garrett Miller, Co-Director, who spent his youth on a working farm counting actual sheep. “We wanted to take this elementary skill that everyone thinks they understand and turn it into a deep, chaotic, and endlessly fun game that anyone can pick up and play.”
