Boulder Dash has been released as the October 2025 Evercade Highlight of the Month.
The Evercade Highlight of the Month program gives owners of Evercade VS, Evercade EXP, and Evercade Alpha consoles the chance to play a full game from a previously released Evercade cartridge, simply by updating the console’s system software. The game then remains playable until the system software is updated again, bringing a new Evercade Highlight of the Month to platy.
This game replaces the September 2025 Evercade Highlight of the Month title, which was the homebrew NES Platformer Flea!, as we previously reported.
The October 2025 Evercade Highlight of the Month is a genuine retro classic, which you’ve probably heard of, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 40 years!
If somehow, you’ve never experienced the brilliance of Boulder Dash before, and you own a compatible Evercade console, this is your chance to play the Commodore 64 version of the original game completely free.
The Commodore 64 version of Boulder Dash first appeared on Evercade on TheC64 Collection 3 cartridge, which was released last year.
Boulder Dash was originally released for Atari 8-bit home computers and consoles back in 1984, before being ported to a number of other formats, with the Commodore 64 port being particularly well received.
In celebration of the game’s 40th anniversary, a new version of Boulder Dash for modern formats was released earlier this year, titled, “Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary, “ and we enjoyed the game when we reviewed it, so if you try and enjoy the original Boulder Dash as the Evercade Highlight of the Month, maybe you’ll go on to buy the modern Boulder Dash 40th Anniversary?
